Even though the 4.5 in. clamp/spreader is made in China, it must be made under more rigorous requirements. The racheting mechanism is much better than a similar but cheaper product I had bought before. The clamp covers that contact the wood are softer and grip better. I have always been happy with any Irwin tool I have purchased. I hope they never disappoint me.
